Cake Decorating Classes

At My Delicious Cake & Decorating Supplies we have a large range of Cake Decorating Classes available to help you improve your Cake Decorating Skills. We welcome all students from Novices through to Professionals. In all Cake Decorating Classes our students will leave their class with a cake/cupcakes that they will be proud to show their family and friends. Our most popular Decorating Classes are our group classes which we run on a regular basis. We offer  Classes that teach you the skills to create/cover a decorated cake/cupcakes, novelty themed cakes and elegant cupcakes. Why should adults have all the fun? We also cater for children during school holiday periods & Saturday/Sunday Classes when available.

Cake Foams/Dummies

Polystyrene cake foams/dummies can be useful to the cake decorator as they are perfect for decorative purposes or just simply to practise on or give extra height to your exciting cake. Gold & Silver Leaf

Gold & Silver Leaf comes in booklets and is available in Loose Leaf and Transfer Leaf. Loose Leaf is where the leaves of Silver are placed between the pages of the booklet and Transfer Leaf is where the leaves of Silver are adhered to a piece of waxed tissue and then put between the pages of the booklet. The size of Leaf available, 80mm x 80mm, these are also available in two thicknesses, standard leaf being 300g and a thicker leaf at 500g. Genuine Silver Leaf will tarnish and so is only suitable for interior use and will need protecting with a varnish. Although Genuine Silver Leaf is thicker than Genuine Gold Leaf the application is exactly the same, where as a gilding size is thinly applied to the surface and once a dry tack, like a tack of a post-it note, it is then ready to take the Silver Leaf. Genuine Silver Leaf is completely harmless when eaten and is deemed safe by the European Union under E174. This is getting more and more popular as an edible food additive and decoration to garnish all types of dishes, cakes and chocolates.

WHAT ARE HOPPER NATURAL FOOD COLOURS?

Hopper natural colours are actually ‘colouring foodstuffs’ concentrates made from fruits and vegetables such as elderberries, pumpkins, carrots and red cabbage.

Because they are a colours extracted nature they are classified as food ingredients not ‘additives’ which are represented by a number or and E-number.

 

Hopper natural colours are derived using a water extraction process, solvents or chemicals are not used in the manufacturing process, and they do not contain any artificial functional additives.

HOW MUCH DO I USE?

• The colours are very concentrated and a typical dosage level is 1 or 2% of the finished product.
• Add a drop at a time until the desired colours is achieved.

TIPS FOR USING THE COLOURS

Hopper Natural Colours are pH sensitive and work best in slightly acidic environments. If you are using alkaline ingredients such as eggs and milk you may want to add a some lemon juice, citric or tartaric acid (all natural ingredients). The most affected colours are pink, purple and particularly the red – it goes pinky purple. We recommend testing the colours in a planned mixture to ensure desired colour can be reached prior to any important event.

 

Please also note, that colours will fade during baking and the colour may alter due to the heat and pH of the product. We do not recommend using them in baking products without experimenting first. If you are intending to make a rainbow cake, please seek out a recipe that has been found to suit the use of natural colours. Not all recipes will give you the desired effect. We do recommend storing the product in the fridge or freezer to ensure stability in extreme temperatures and to maintain colour intensity. The best before date is only a guide and we recommend using your judgement as to whether you wish to continue using the product after its best before date. The product can be frozen and thawed many times over. We recommend using your judgement in whether to use after the best before date.  Defrost to room temperature prior to use. Can be frozen and defrosted repeatedly as required. Product remains a liquid even when stored in freezer.
